I am a sheep
I am a sheep, God:
I know exactly what I want,
and how to get there.
No matter how many times
I get stuck in the undergrowth
or fall into the ditch.
I am a sheep, God:
When you show me the right way,
I suddenly get scared.
Break out.
Stop and become stubborn,
instead of following your guidance.
I am a sheep, God:
Sitting in a dry barn, chewing hay,
surrounded by other sheep
and I still do not feel well.
I am dissatisfied, bleating and spreading unrest,
instead of enjoying the break.
I am a sheep, God:
Let the wind startle me
and put to sleep by the rain,
instead of listening to your voice.
Throw myself into the tumult of the flock,
instead of waiting for you.
I am a sheep, God:
Offended when you care for others.
Busy when you want to spend time with me.
Grieved when your pace is a different pace
than what I have in mind.
I am a sheep, God.
And you the shepherd, the creator, the healer,
the teacher, the father.
Help me to keep my ears fixed on you.
Help me to keep my eyes on you.
Help me to walk behind you.
I am a sheep, God.
And you are the good shepherd.
